After scouring the Web for impressions of Star Command from PAX East this past weekend, I was surprised to see that there wasn’t all that much said. The forthcoming Star Trek-esque Android & iOS sim was demoed at the Kickstarter booth at Penny Arcade’s Boston event on Saturday. Warballoon posted some images of the game being played by attendees on their Twitter account.
Piki Geek had a delegation at PAX East who reported back impressions on Star Command after a hands-on. Their report doesn’t add much that we didn’t already know, but writer Ben Chapman did report that there was an iPad version on show. Warballoon Games had originally stated that an iPad version wasn’t a priority, but Piki Geek‘s report and this recent tweet from the devs suggest that we can expect an iPad version of the game at launch.
Impressions of the game on Twitter were mixed. Joystiq editor Alexander Sliwinski had this to say:
Star Command is being shown for first time at PAX East. Played the demo. Have very, very high hopes. Now checking out XCOM.

On the other hand, RPGamer’s Michael Apps was less impressed:
@MerinoEM star command I wasn’t all that impressed with. Forgot about Torchlight 2 but I’m the wrong person to check that out anyway.

So was Star Command’s public debut a damp squib? We certainly hope not. Maybe the long holiday weekend is interfering with the prompt posting of impressions – God knows the coffee has been flowing steadily here at PT Towers this morning. Did you play Star Command at PAX East? Drop me a line, I’d love to hear from you.
