Here’s an epoch we don’t usually see alternate histories for: Sixteenth-century Europe. DaVinci’s Art of War is a forthcoming iPad wargame being developed by (appropriately Italian) studio Mixel.
DaVinci’s Art of War is a conquest game where players are given the opportunity to augment their fighting forces by using their spoils to bid for Leonardo’s brilliant war machines: tanks, airborne infantry, and other designs. Mixel is collaborating on the project with board game designer Spartaco Albertarelli, who designed the printed version of the game for Fantasy Flight.
Art of War will support three to four players and will feature AIs for single-player as well as online and local wi-fi multiplayer. Mixel has told me that the game is coming “soon”, but haven’t been more specific than that. This isn’t a dev with a long strategy game track record, but it’s an exciting concept.
There’s a perfectly lovely but sadly gameplay-free teaser trailer below. I’ll be hounding Mixel for more details.
