Sports Interactive have whisked the cloche from atop Football Manager Handheld 2013, revealing more details about tonight’s new edition.
The most visible change is the addition of player photos into the game – at least for the leagues which SI have a license for. If the status quo carries over from the PC and Mac version, that means no Bundesliga and no Premier League images, so you’ll have to use your imagination if you want to see Franck Ribery. On second thought, well done SI.
The new FMH also features reserve sides, an increase in playable leagues from 12 to 14, club captain selection, and a variety of other improvements.
One addition that fans may not be so keen about is the inclusion of in-app purchases this year. Some of these “unlockables” (as SI are calling them) are essentially cheats – but cheats grounded in the reality of modern soccer. The “Sugar Daddy” unlockable has a self-aggrandizing billionaire buy your club, giving you an immediate cash injection. Another unlockable gives you a seat on the club’s board, ensuring that you can’t be fired as manager. SI points out that unlockables can be accessed through gameplay achievements (as the name implies) or just purchased outright.
Football Manager Handheld 2013Â for iOS is already available in the far-flung future of New Zealand, and should arrive around midnight local time in your part of the world. The Android edition should be popping up shortly as well.
