Given the lack of verve around Kickstarter these days, it’s reassuring to see projects from the comparatively free-spending days of this past summer moving along. Kickstarter alumnus SolForge – the currently-in-development iOS and Android card game from the designers of Ascension – is being shown off to the general public for the first time. The game seems to be well on track for the promised closed beta early next year.
The former Gary Games have posted a 10-minute long gameplay video of their new opus – along with the news that they are changing their name to Stoneblade Entertainment. Seems a bit tame, really – if you’re going to change a perfectly good name, go the whole nine yards like Prince did.
Longtime readers will recall that Gary/Stoneblade are striking out on their own and creating SolForge entirely in-house, forgoing the chance to renew their partnership with Ascension developers Playdek. From the video, it doesn’t appear like they’ve done too badly with that, but we’ll have to have the game under our fingers to really know if Gary made the right call. The video shows off a game that seems to be a significant departure from Ascension’s mechanics – I’m intrigued.
We first wrote about the SolForge Kickstarter back in August, and it came up in my interview with George Rothrock and Gary Weis from Playdek.
