What is Pokémon Go’s Genesect?

Genesect is number 649 in the Pokedex and was initially from the region of Unova in Pokémon Black and White, and their sequels Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. It’s a bug / steel-type, and the reincarnation of an ancient fossil that the evil Team Plasma then manipulates, and in its original appearance it could change its form and the type of its signature move by holding different elemental drives.

How do I catch Pokémon Go Genesect?

As a mythical Pokémon, Genesect is only available in five-star Pokémon Go raids. Currently, Genesect isn’t part of the current rotation of raids, but we’ll update this guide when it becomes available again.

What are Pokémon Go Genesect’s moves?

Here are the moves Genesect can learn in Pokémon Go:

Quick moves

  • Fury cutter
  • Metal Claw

Charged moves

  • Hyper Beam
  • Magnet Bomb
  • X-scissor
  • Techno Drive (elite TM)

How do I use Pokémon Go’s Genesect?

As a bug / steel-type, Genesect has a bunch of resistances, including dragon, ice, fairy, psychic, big, steel, poison, and grass. It is, however, 4x weak to fire Pokémon, so don’t let it anywhere near a Charizard unless you fancy some barbeque locust bites.

Its typing makes it particularly effective against ice- and fairy-types. Here’s a list of Pokémon Genesect is especially great against:

  • Zacian
  • Galarian Articuno
  • Galarian Rapidash
  • Regice
  • Galarian Darmanitan (standard form)
  • Tapu Lele
  • Mega Altaria
  • Kyurem
  • Togekiss
  • Armaldo

How do I counter Pokémon Go’s Genesect?

Genesect is a bit of a glass cannon, especially with its brutal weakness to fire. Most charged fire attacks do some serious damage, but a few Pokémon, in particular, are a nightmare for Genesect to face. Train these up and take them to the next Genesect raid to call this mythical bug Pokémon your own.

Here are the best Genesect counters:

  • Volcarona
  • Salamence
  • Charizard
  • Infernape
  • Solgaleo
  • Incineroar
  • Blaziken
  • Reshiram
  • Emboar
  • Chandelure

Okay, Pokémon trainers, that’s all we have today, but hopefully, you’ve got everything you need to face Genesect in battle and capture this mythical menace. If you catch a shiny, be a mate and send me one. If you’re looking for more great Go guides, head on over to our Pokémon Go Eevee evolution and Pokémon Go Giovanni guides.
